Authors! After a year of silence—whoops!—Wyngraf is putting together our new Valentine’s Day romance special, and we need you.
Specifically, what we need is:
- Cozy fantasy romance stories featuring queer leads
- Special consideration will be given to trans authors and characters
- 3,000 – 6,000 words (a little outside is OK)
This is a special, not a full issue, so we’re looking to buy something like two or three stories. This time around, we’re paying 5 cents a word! (This probably won’t last, but right now we can, so we are.)
If you feel comfortable, we invite you to mention your queer identity in your cover email. You don’t have to. We won’t judge.
A few ground rules:
- We have a specific definition of what we want. Our working definitions of both “cozy” and “fantasy” are particular, but they give Wyngraf its flavor. Please read and follow them!
- No reprints, please.
- One submission per author (no multiple submissions).
- You’re welcome to submit your story to other markets (simultaneous submissions are fine) but please let us know if it’s accepted elsewhere.
- No erotica. We lean heavily toward sweet/low-spice romance; please keep it PG-13 at most.
- Absolutely no stories written or co-written by so-called generative AI/chatbots/predictive text models. Editors can tell. This is a great way to get blacklisted.

How to Submit
Submissions are open now, and will close at the end of Sunday, January 26th. (That roughly means midnight, U.S. Eastern time, but if you’re in a different time zone and your story comes in a bit later, no one will notice because we’ll be asleep.)
